Sake Sangria
A delightful twist on the classic Spanish punch, Sake Sangria combines the delicate flavors of Japanese sake with fresh fruits and a touch of sweetness. A refreshing and light alternative to its wine-based counterpart, this cocktail is perfect for social gatherings and offers a unique fusion of East and West.
Equipment
- Large pitcher
- stirring spoon
- Knife
- Cutting board
- Wine glasses or tumblers
Ingredients
- 1 bottle Junmai or Ginjo sake 750 ml
- 1/2 cup simple syrup
- 1/2 cup orange liqueur
- 2 cups assorted fresh fruit such as oranges, lemons, limes, and berries
- 1 cup soda water or ginger ale
- Ice cubes for serving
Instructions
- Slice the fresh fruits into thin rounds or wedges.
- In a large pitcher, combine the sliced fruits with the simple syrup and orange liqueur.
- Pour the sake over the fruit mixture and gently stir to combine.
- Refrigerate the sangria for at least 2 hours or overnight to allow the flavors to meld.
- Just before serving, stir in the soda water or ginger ale to add a light effervescence.
- Serve the Sake Sangria over ice in wine glasses or tumblers.
Notes:
- For a drier Sake Sangria, reduce the amount of simple syrup. Adjust the fruit selection based on seasonality for the freshest taste. If desired, garnish with a sprig of mint for an extra touch of freshness.
