Ingredients
  

Onion Rings:

  • 1 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup red ale can also use lager or another ale
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste
  • 1 large onion white or sweet
  • 3-4 cups canola or vegetable oil for frying

Onion Ring Sauce:

  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 1/2 tbsp horseradish
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • Pinch of cayenne pepper

Instructions
 

  • In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and pepper.
  • Pour in the beer and Worcestershire sauce, whisking until smooth.
  • Let the batter sit covered for about 30 minutes.
  • Slice the onion into 1/4-inch to 1/2-inch-thick rings and pat dry with paper towels.
  • Heat the oil in a deep skillet or fryer to 350°F - 365°F.
  • Dip onion rings into the batter and fry in the oil until golden brown on both sides, flipping once.
  • Fry in batches, without overcrowding, and remove with metal tongs or a slotted spoon to a wire rack lined with paper towels.
  • Mix all sauce ingredients until smooth and serve with the hot onion rings.
