How To Make Fourth of July Oreo Balls

Making The Oreo Cookie Balls

Step 1: Line two baking trays with parchment paper and set them aside. Place the Oreos in a food processor or blender and pulse them into fine cookie crumbs. (You can also crush the Oreo cookies by placing them in a Ziploc bag and rolling over them with a rolling pin.)

Step 2: Place the softened cream cheese in a large mixing bowl. Beat with a hand mixer on high speed until smooth.

Step 3: Add the crushed Oreo cookies to the cream cheese and mix on medium speed until well blended.

Step 4: Use a small cookie scoop to create evenly sized balls of the Oreo mixture, and then roll each one in the palms of your hands to make it smooth. Set the balls on the prepared baking sheet.

Step 5: Place the balls into the refrigerator to chill for 2 hours. (Note: If you are short on time, you can freeze the balls for 15-20 minutes.)

Decorating The Oreo Balls

Step 6: Remove one tray of the prepared balls from the refrigerator. In a double boiler over low heat, melt the blue candy melts, stirring every 30 seconds until completely melted and smooth. (You can also use a microwave safe bowl and microwave on low setting for this step).

Step 7: Use a fork to dip each ball completely into the melted chocolate. Lift the fork and tap it to shake off excess coating.

Tips & Tricks

  • You can use any flavor of Oreos, but be sure to use the correct amount, about 45 regular sized cookies. If you use fewer cookies or select the double or mega stuff cookies with more cream, you may end up with soft and wet Oreo balls.
  • If you can’t find white star confetti at your grocery store, you can purchase it online at Amazon. You can also substitute white nonpareils or sugar pearls.
  • For best results, I recommend using the double boiler method rather than the microwave to melt the candy coating. It helps to keep a thin consistency, which is ideal for coating. Be sure to keep the heat on low to avoid the melts seizing and clumping.
  • Regular white chocolate or almond bark can be used in place of the white melting wafers.

How Do I Store These Patriotic Oreo Balls?

Place any leftover balls in an airtight container in the refrigerator. They should keep for up to 5 days.

Can I Freeze Them?

Yes – you can freeze this 4th of July treat for up to 2 months. Be sure to separate them with parchment paper so they don’t stick together and place them in an airtight container or Ziploc bag.
