How To Make Fourth of July Oreo Balls

Making The Oreo Cookie Balls

Step 1: Line two baking trays with parchment paper and set them aside. Place the Oreos in a food processor or blender and pulse them into fine cookie crumbs. (You can also crush the Oreo cookies by placing them in a Ziploc bag and rolling over them with a rolling pin.)

Step 2: Place the softened cream cheese in a large mixing bowl. Beat with a hand mixer on high speed until smooth.

Step 3: Add the crushed Oreo cookies to the cream cheese and mix on medium speed until well blended.

Step 4: Use a small cookie scoop to create evenly sized balls of the Oreo mixture, and then roll each one in the palms of your hands to make it smooth. Set the balls on the prepared baking sheet.

Step 5: Place the balls into the refrigerator to chill for 2 hours. (Note: If you are short on time, you can freeze the balls for 15-20 minutes.)

Decorating The Oreo Balls

Step 6: Remove one tray of the prepared balls from the refrigerator. In a double boiler over low heat, melt the blue candy melts, stirring every 30 seconds until completely melted and smooth. (You can also use a microwave safe bowl and microwave on low setting for this step).

Step 7: Use a fork to dip each ball completely into the melted chocolate. Lift the fork and tap it to shake off excess coating.

Step 8: Place on the baking sheet and immediately sprinkle with the white star confetti. Place the blue Oreo balls back into the refrigerator to allow the coating to set.

Step 9: Remove the second tray of the balls from the refrigerator. Using a clean double boiler on low heat, melt the red candy melts, stirring every 30 seconds until smooth.

Step 10: Use a fork to dip each ball completely into the red coating. Lift the fork out and tap it to remove any excess coating.

Step 11: Place the ball back onto the cookie sheet and repeat with the remaining balls.

Step 12: Using a small piping bag, microwave ⅓ cup white melting wafers in 30 second increments until melted. Massage the bag at each interval to ensure that the wafers melt evenly.

Step 13: Snip a small piece of the tip off the end of the bag and drizzle white lines over the red Oreo balls. Return the balls to the refrigerator to allow the coating to set for 10 minutes. Keep refrigerated until ready to eat.
