Sake Sangria

A delightful twist on the classic Spanish punch, Sake Sangria combines the delicate flavors of Japanese sake with fresh fruits and a touch of sweetness. A refreshing and light alternative to its wine-based counterpart, this cocktail is perfect for social gatherings and offers a unique fusion of East and West. 

Equipment:

  • Large pitcher
  • stirring spoon
  • Knife
  • Cutting board
  • Wine glasses or tumblers

Ingredients:

  • 1 bottle Junmai or Ginjo sake (750 ml)
  • 1/2 cup simple syrup
  • 1/2 cup orange liqueur
  • 2 cups assorted fresh fruit (such as oranges, lemons, limes, and berries)
  • 1 cup soda water or ginger ale
  • Ice cubes for serving

Instructions:

  • Slice the fresh fruits into thin rounds or wedges.
  • In a large pitcher, combine the sliced fruits with the simple syrup and orange liqueur.
  • Pour the sake over the fruit mixture and gently stir to combine.
  • Refrigerate the sangria for at least 2 hours or overnight to allow the flavors to meld.
  • Just before serving, stir in the soda water or ginger ale to add a light effervescence.
  • Serve the Sake Sangria over ice in wine glasses or tumblers.

Notes:

For a drier Sake Sangria, reduce the amount of simple syrup. Adjust the fruit selection based on seasonality for the freshest taste. If desired, garnish with a sprig of mint for an extra touch of freshness.
