How To Make Slow Cooker Spicy Cabbage Beef Soup

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 6 cups chopped cabbage cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1 medium onion large chop
  • 1 15-ounce can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 10-ounce can Rotel tomatoes and green chiles
  • 1 1/3 cups water
  • 2 beef bouillon cubes crumbled
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Instructions:

  1. Brown the ground beef.
  2. Place the ground beef and the other ingredients in a 6-quart or larger slow cooker.
  3. Cover and cook on LOW for 6 to 8 hours or on HIGH for 4 to 5 hours.
  4. Serve.

Recipe Tips:

If you don’t mind eating carbs and you want additional protein, you can add a can of kidney beans, and it goes well with cornbread.

To change things up a bit, you can substitute ground turkey, ground sausage or ground chicken, instead of the ground beef.

Storage:

Leftovers will keep in the refrigerator for 4 to 5 days and can also be frozen, for future meals.

How Spicy Is This Soup?

If you use “Hot” Rotel tomatoes and 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne pepper, it has a moderate amount of heat. For more heat, double the amount of cayenne pepper or add 1/4 teaspoon of crushed red pepper flakes.
